Ingredients

  • 5-6 potatoes
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 5 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tsp salt

Method

Step 1

Wash and clean 5-6 potatoes. Peel their skins and chop them into 1 inch to 2 inches small pieces. Transfer chopped potatoes in a pot and add cold water in it. Add 1 tsp salt and 3 crushed garlic cloves in the pot.

Step 2

Keep pot on a burner and turn heat on medium. Let potatoes boil for 20 min or until fork tender. Do not overcook potatoes. Use fork to pierce potatoes to check if they are cooked. Fork should pierce smoothly.

Step 3

Drain well and keep potatoes and garlic in same pan. Put pan back on the burner and toss potatoes on medium heat for a minute to remove moisture.

Step 4

Meanwhile, add 1 cup milk in a pan and keep it on heat until it warms. Melt the butter in a separate pan. You can also melt butter together with milk.

Step 5

Mash potatoes using a potato masher. Add 5 tbsp melted butter and 1 cup hot milk, 1 tsp salt and sprinkle pinch of black pepper powder. Mash until they smoothen or reach your desired texture.

Step 6

Transfer in serving bowl. Garnish with melted butter and fresh parsley or chives.
